has been the leading manufacturer of wheel lock systems for more than 40 years.
Aftermarket
McGard invented its unique one-piece wheel lock for the automotive aftermarket in 1963. It functions like an existing lug nut, but requires a special key tool for removal. Our wheel lock is easy to use, yet provides a high level of wheel & tire security. It’s also adaptable enough to allow for an unlimited number of different computer designed lock and key patterns. McGard employs the same innovative design & high quality standards used in the production of wheel locks to manufacture chrome plated lug nuts. In-house plating technology and experienced personnel enable McGard to produce superior quality lug nuts in large volumes that are strong, safe, durable and exceed typical corrosion resistance standards.
OEM Products In 1977, McGard entered the automotive OEM market with a lock for Cadillac’s stainless steel wire wheel covers. Since then, we’ve become a major supplier of wheel locks to automotive OEMs in domestic and overseas markets, currently selling to over 30 automobile brand names. Our success with wheel lock technology has led to the development of other security locks for the automotive market including: Navigation Systems; License Plates and Frames; Air Bags; Spare Tires on light-duty trucks, SUV’s & vans; pickup truck Tailgates; Winches; Wheel Covers; Driving Lights; heavy-duty truck Air Cleaners.

In 1980 McGard established its Special Products Division. Our unique line of non-automotive/marine applications provide innovatiove security solutions for access/perimeter control and theft/removal prevention for municipalities, public utilities, the oil field industry, high security facilities, electronics and telecommunications equipment.
Marine
McGard offers the most complete line of marine security fasteners in the industry. These products include Stern Drive Locks, Propeller Locks, and Outboard Motor Locks. Machined from stainless steel and naval brass, these products are built to withstand the demands of a harsh marine environment. Chrome plated Trailer Wheel Locks and matching Lug Nuts are also offered.

Failure to comply with guidelines & warnings could cause an unsafe condition and result in serious injury or death. Do not use: a bolt with a different seat style (cone, radius, flat); or a bolt shorter or longer than the lug bolt specified for your wheel.

In many cases McGard lug bolts are designed to be a direct replacement for OEM lug bolts. On the following pages you will find OEM lug bolt part numbers that cross reference to McGard part numbers. If you can identify your OEM part number then you can easily identify the proper McGard part. If you can’t identify your OEM lug bolts or have aftermarket lug bolts you will have to check for the following: correct thread size; cone or radius style seating surface; the shank length is not too short or too long. Refer to this diagram for information on correctly measuring your lug bolt.

The PROJECTED INTERSECTION on a floating seat (2-piece) bolt corresponds with the INTERSECTION on a solid seat (1-piece) bolt. Lock bolt applications/dimensions should not be used to cross reference/determine lug bolt applications.

Note: When installing wheel lock bolts and lug bolts, verify that it is the correct thread size, seating surface (cone seat, radius seat) and style as recommended by the wheel manufacturer. Minimum thread engagement into hub assembly must be 5½ complete 360º revolutions of bolt (5½ full bolt rotations).
Verification for Cone & Radius Seat Lock Bolt or Lug Bolt:
Misapplication: insufficient thread engagement into the hub assembly.

Verify that the thread size and shank measurement of your current fasteners match the McGard fasteners. 3 Install one McGard lug or lock bolt on each wheel from step one. Tighten to normal installation torque. Minimum thread engagement into hub assembly must be 5½ complete 360º revolutions.
Too short of a shank will result in lack of engagement and an unsafe condition (see illustration #1). Too long of a shank can extend beyond the hub assembly and possibly cause damage to other vehicle parts (see illustration #2). 4 Upon verification of proper application, complete installation per McGard’s installation instructions. Note: If your spare tire is a steel wheel and your road wheels are aluminum, you must also verify the application for your spare tire/wheel. If you do not wish to verify the application now, you should keep enough of your original fasteners in your vehicle for use with the spare tire/wheel.

Lug Nuts We tested our regular and bulge style acorn lug nuts against four competitors in a CASS (copper-accelerated acetic acid-salt spray) chamber. This test was developed by the American Electroplaters Society to measure the specific corrosion resistance of nickel-chromium platings. It involves subjecting plated parts to a salt solution at a specific temperature, pressure and length of time to emulate exposure to the elements. Accelerated tests like these are employed by car manufacturers to measure quality and performance. A 22 hr. CASS cycle is considered to be equivalent to one year of exposure in Detroit weather conditions. Before each 22 hr. CASS cycle the lug nuts were installed and removed using a lug wrench to simulate normal use. As you can see by these unretouched photos, our lug nuts look great even after 1, 3 and 5 years of exposure. If you were to wipe off the residue from the CASS test you’d have a hard time telling they weren’t new. Unlike the other brands, McGard lug nuts are designed and built to be used!

1. The easiest way to order a McGard replacement key is via our web-shop:
shop.mcgard.de Entering the 17/18 digit code number, which you will find printed in the installation instruction of each McGard wheel lock set, you can order the right replacement key very easily online.
2. Defective keys will be replaced free of charge, if they are
returned to McGard prepaid and adequately packaged. The defective keys have to be in house at McGard before a replacement will be delivered. Send only the defective key - not the complete set together with your address and the code number from your code card, to this address:
